El Karama Lodge Testimonials
El Karama Eco Lodge is an award-winning, intimate and family friendly wildlife lodge located in the heart of the Laikipia, Kenya (Important Bird Area). Guests have access to 14,000 acres of private land with an exceptional variety of birds, mammals, trees and plants. Offering the care and intimacy of a private safari, we pride ourselves on our warmth, hospitality and exceptional value.
You can stay with us safe in the knowledge that this lodge has been designed holistically to balance your comfort with a minimal footprint on the natural environment around us. Eco tourism is used as a positive conservation tool for communities, habitats and wildlife in Laikipia. Comprised of six private cottages each over-looking the Ewaso Nyiro river, we also have a beautiful eco swimming pool for relaxing in the middle of the day, two open dining rooms with views of the stars and an active salt lick with visiting wildlife. We even have a special arts and crafts gallery just for children. Described as the ‘Hidden Gem of Laikipia’, this is the perfect option for families and small groups looking for an affordable and private lodge with a ‘bush home’ feel.
Guests can see over 80 mammal species here including Four of the Big Five and over 412 identified bird species (2016). This stunning and picturesque habitat boasts unusual mammals like the Grevy Zebra, Gerenuk, Laikipia Hartebeeste, African Hunting Dogs, as well as Leopard, Lion, Cheetah, Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo and the Reticulated Giraffe. ‘Plains Game’ abounds and our guided walks in the bush will take you near herds of Burchill’s Zebra and Grant’s gazelle and over landscapes enhanced by dreamy views of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare mountain range. With six dams/water holes on the property, you can sit quietly bird-watching, wait patiently for predators or photograph elephant families play – every day is different. Keen fishermen can throw a line in and test their patience, cattle enthusiasts can visit the bomas and active guests can take long walks tracking wildlife with our guides. The really intrepid guests can camp on roll mats under the African sky listening to the calls of the night.
Whatever you choose to do with us, we will make sure you leave us with your memory bank full. Bush life starts here!
